I'm now supposed to tell you about my work-in-progress. I've intentionally been pretty tight lipped about what I've been working on but I'll finally let you get a sneak peek!!!

Ten Interview Questions for the Next Big Thing:

What is your working title of your book?
*drumroll*........BECOMING MOTHER NATURE

Where did the idea come from for the book?
I watched Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney Channel with my kids in August 2011. One episode featured Mother Nature and I thought, "Man, it'd be so cool if a teen girl had to learn how to be Mother Nature." Sirens sounded off in my head and I wrote the idea down because I was working on Haute Mess, my YA rom-com, at the time. I finally started working on it in tiny increments in May of 2012 and continued to do so over the summer. I didn't really start working on it seriously until September 2012...so, just a few months ago. But I've actually written most of the words since mid October.
What genre does your book fall under?
 Young Adult Urban Fantasy

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Sarah Hyland from Modern Family and Geek Charming, a Disney movie.
Chase Crawford from Gossip Girl and recent movie, What to Expect When Expecting

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
When Demi inherits her grandmother's role as Mother Nature she has to not only learn how to influence the weather and natural elements, but she also has to fight for her life as she saves the world as we know it.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I'm REALLY hoping this is THE BOOK that gets an agents attention and I will be represented by an agency.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
I guess I kind of answered this above. I started the first couple chapters of the summer, but didn't really dive in until mid-October. I'm a little under halfway and it's been about five weeks of serious writing. I'm hoping to go HARD CORE and get the rest of the rough draft done in the next 2 weeks or so.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I guess it would be a mash-up of many books. The way I'm creating a world and/or sect of people humans don't even know exist is comparable to THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES by Cassandra Clare or FALLEN by Lauren Kate. The subtle humor would be comparable to THE GHOST AND THE GOTH by Stacey Kade. If anyone ever actually compared my manuscript to any of these books or authors I'd be completely shocked and totally humbled...then I'd pee myself.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?
Well, above I told you where I got the idea. But I also love being outside surrounded by nature. The changing of the seasons is truly magical.  Once I have an idea for a story, music also inspires me. Since September I've listened to A LOT of Imagine Dragons, Snow Patrol, Florence + The Machine and more.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Demi has to balance the doom and gloom stuff of her new "job" with the important relationships in her life, like her best friend, an arrogant new dude she HAS to work with, and her long-time-buddy-she-now-has-a-crush-on guy friend.

Below are the fab writers I tagged on this blog hop. Click on their names to visit their blogs!

Lynne Matson - YA author of light SF. NIL will be released by Macmillan/Henry Holt in 2014.

Lindsay Currie - YA author who writes killer horror and thrillers.

Trisha Leaver - YA author who writes freaky contemporary and horror.

Eliza Tilton - YA author of fantasy and contemporary. Her fantasy was just picked up by Curiosity Quills.

Cindy Thomas - YA author who has awesome taste in music.

Watcha think? Does my WIP sound interesting?

  4. Loved the idea from the beginning and thought the plot you'd outlined when you visited intriguing!!!! Good to hear the writing is coming along and of course now I'll a few more 'grandchildren' as most of your characters become 'like' members of the family.
