WELCOME BACK TO
FEATURING THE SEYMOUR AGENCY AUTHORS
Please visit the talented Seymour Agency authors
listed at the bottom of this post!
They have been telling about their call experiences
throughout the week. Some of them
are even having GIVEAWAYS!
My GIVEAWAYS are listed at the bottom of my story!
If you missed the first post that started my call story - the long, bumpy road to finding an agent - you can click HERE.
I'll now continue with my call story...
After "The Call"
What happened after the day/night of the call? Did you have to give other agents a heads up?
I answered this a little in the previous post. My situation was very different. I wasn't even querying when I was offered representation. I go the offer after I took on a job at The Seymour Agency, where I had queried before. They knew my work. So I didn't have to contact other agents or endure the torture of waiting a week to hear back from others.
I got the call in the afternoon and that night the hubs brought home some bubbly to celebrate!
How long have you had your current agent?
It's been just over two weeks since I received the call so this is still very "new" for me. SQUEEEE!!!
Has your agent sold your work?
If you just read the above question and answer you can probably guess that my answer here is "no." I'm knee deep in revisions on my contemporary YA right now. (But I'm armed with stylish Welly knock-offs, plenty of coffee, and a few bottle of Cabernet, so I'm set.)
Do you have words for aspiring writers or readers of your category and genre?
To aspiring writers - believe in your dreams. Even when you want to give in to the self-doubt crawling under skin, when you get another freaking rejection, when it seems like everything is working against your goal of being a validated writer, believe in your dreams. Write every chance you get, even if it's not a manuscript. Read everything you can get your hands on whether it's in your genre or not. Critique. Go to conferences. Take classes. Put in the time, work hard, be genuine, TRY to stay positive, and DON'T GIVE UP! Cheerleader out, yo.

Damn right don't give up! I see writers trying to talk themselves out of their dreams all the time, and it makes me sad. But they've got to keep going, because you never know what's just around the corner. I love how Twitter was the place for both you and me, where it started - sort of. haha. <3
ReplyDelete:D Thanks, Tamara! Twitter's the bombdigity!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all-- CONGRATULATIONS!! How amazing to have an agent now. That is awe-inspiring! I just discovered you here and on Twitter...and I can already tell that I will enjoy your writing!
ReplyDeleteHere's why:
1. You used the word, "SQUEE!!" Love it. It emits the elation of what you have accomplished--landing an agent. Go you!!!
2. "Cheerleader out, yo!" I needed to hear that. All this week I have been having bizzarre thoughts about my writing, as in, "What am I doing?" I have also, ironically, been trying to use the term "yo," as in "keep it reals, yo" as much as possible to annoy and entertain those around me. I'm sure I'm more annoying than anything else. But you used it, yo! You made my day!
3. Your pixie cut is amazing. ;)
Enjoy this wonderful accomplishment...
PS- sorry for the long comment!
Thanks so much for following, Heather! And I'm so excited to find a squee lovin', short-hair wearin', "yo" usin' kindred spirit!
